Archives Week


Archives Week fosters our identity and pride in our past with displays and special events. It elevates the role of our province's archival institutions as keepers of authentic evidence of our past, keeping archives on our map!

This year's Northern Saskatchewan Archives Open House will be : Tuesday 7 February, 2017, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Open House will include the following displays :

Norman MacAuley Collection

Wollaston Lake Caribou Hunt

Rock Paintings in Northern Saskatchewan

1928 fiom "Freighting in Northern Canada"

Last year's 2016 Archives Week, themed “Long-time Northern Families and Images from the Old Days”, included the following displays:

  • Robert Keighley Collection– photos taken by his father Basil in the 1930s and 40s, trapping and working for the HBC.
  • McKay Family Collection– photos of Roderick and Catherine McKay and their descendants, 1940s and 50s.
  • Anne Hryniuk Collection– photos from the days of her parents, Chris and Ida Olsen, La Ronge’s earliest entrepreneurs.                                                                                          
  • HBC Artifacts– collector Chris Collins of Besnard Lake displays a selection of finds.
  • “Old La Ronge”– a selection of photos of the town over the years.
  • “We need Names”photos from various sources of people we would like to name.  
  • John and Margaret Irving– New discoveries in local history and genealogy.
