Placing a Hold on Library Materials
All PNLS card holders can place a hold on any available, loanable materials within the province-wide online catalogue. Requested material will be delivered to the library you have selected when placing the hold
1. Begin by going to the PNLS homepage and searching the catalogue for the item you are looking for.
2. Once you have located material you want, click the 'Place Hold' icon. Be sure to note the availability status of the item you are requesting. For example, there may be a long waiting list for the item, and you may have to wait longer than usual to borrow it.
3. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to enter your library card number and password.
4. A "Select Pick-up Location will then pop-up where you will be required to select your library region and public library pick-up location from the drop down menus. If there is no public library in your area, choose PNLS Headquarters and your library materials will be sent to you by mail.
5. If the request was successful, you can click 'Return to Your Record' where you will find the item(s) listed. Your library will notify you by phone or email when your material is ready for pick-up
Suspending a Hold Online
Did you know that you are able to temporarily "Suspend" an item you have on hold? If you are going to be away on vacation or simply do not have the time to use the item you have requested for the time being, you can freeze this itme without losing your place in line.
1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your library password.
3. Once you have accessed your account, click on the "Requests" tab to view the items you have on hold.
4. Check the 'Suspend' box. If you want to suspend more than one item, check the corresponding 'Suspend' box for each additional item.
Renewing Library Materials Online
1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your library password.
3. Once you have accessed your account, click on the "Items Out" tab to view the items you have checked out.
4. To renew items, click on the corresponding box 'Renew' for each item you wish to keep.
Cardholders may renew their materials online. The maximum number of renewals per item is two.
Library materials cannot be renewed when:
- You owe $10.00 or more in overdue fines.
- Another patron has requested the item.
- The renewal limit of 2 has been exceeded.
Please note that magazines cannot be renewed.
Canceling a Hold Online
If you decide you are no longer interested in borrowing an item that you have placed on hold, you can easily login to your library account to cancel the hold.
1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your library password.
3. Once you have accessed your account, click on the "Requests" tab to view the items you have checked out.
4. Check the "Cancel' box next to the item you no longer wish to have on hold for you.
