Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program, sponsored in part by TD Bank, is held every summer.  Each year, participating member libraries develop a wide range of exciting activities around a new theme to help kids enjoy and practice reading as part of the TD Summer Reading Club. TD Summer Reading Club.

Children 12 and under can register at participating northern member libraries for the TD Summer Reading Club and receive an activity book and stickers - all free as part of their reading kit. Additionally, families can register their kids on their own on the TD Summer Reading Club website and participate independently.

Space Exploration

Blast Off into Space Exploration This year summer reading is all about space exploration! To inspire young minds, we have included a link to the Canadian Space Agency's Youth and Educators page. Here, you will find fascinating information, activities, and educational resources about space. It's a great way to combine reading with exciting scientific discovery.

Craft and Activity Ideas

Get Creative with Craft and Activity Ideas Looking for fun and engaging crafts and activities to complement your child's reading? StoryWalk™ Featuring "The Darkest Dark" by Chris Hadfield

Enjoy a StoryWalk™ Adventure We are excited to announce that all public libraries in the north have been sent a StoryWalk™ featuring the story The Darkest Dark by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. This interactive experience allows children and families to read the story while walking through different stations set up along a path. It's a wonderful way to combine literacy, physical activity, and a love for space exploration. Check with your local library to find out where and when you can participate in this unique adventure.

Accessible Reading Materials

Access Materials for Print Disabilities If you or someone you know has a print disability—a condition that prevents you from reading standard print due to visual, physical, or learning disabilities—you can register with the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) to access a wide range of materials designed for the print disabled. CELA offers a variety of formats, including audio, braille, and e-text, to ensure that everyone can enjoy reading.

The National Network for Equitable Library Services (NNELS) provides access to a growing collection of downloadable audiobooks and other accessible formats restricted to the print disabled, made available through the SILS catalogue in Saskatchewan.

A person meeting the criteria can fill out a self-declaration form at their local library. The print disabled status will be added to his/her card and the corresponding barcode and PIN can then be used to access NNELS material.

NNELS forms can be accessed at the links below:

These resources ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy reading, regardless of any print disabilities.
